With our folk and traditional arts programs, The Ohio Arts Council supports artists and communities as they share, learn, and sustain their living, cultural traditions.

The Ohio Arts Council is committed to expanding the public awareness of Ohio’s rich landscape of communities and nurturing a sense of pride among Ohio’s traditional artists. The OAC identifies, documents, and seeks to more fully understand the many ways in which cultural values are embedded in daily life. We work to bring attention to the aesthetic forms that firmly ground and deeply connect individuals to their communities — from practical and beautiful hand-made objects to stories, songs, dances and events that bring people together. Our overarching goal is to integrate and connect cultural heritage to educational activities, cultural conservation, and art and community development in order to strengthen the fabric of neighborhoods, towns and cities throughout Ohio.

Our goal is to create a space where we can share Ohio’s cultural treasures, provide portraits of master artists and apprentices sustaining their art forms in the 21st century,  and to celebrate Ohio’s cultural vitality in communities big and small, from the shores of Lake Erie to the banks of the Ohio.
